RECORD COLLECTOR: Download talks to Carl.

Record collector magazine tracked down Cathal Smyth to find out more about the new Madness downloads... here are a couple of extracts from the short interview in the download collector section.

Of all your singles and Bsides from in this new download sets which do you think defines the spirit of the band?

"Mistakes, the B side of One Step Beyond. It was written at a young age, but is wise way beyond our years." And which are the forgotten gems? "Primrose hill (from rise and fall), Take it or leave it and Not Home Today (both from Absolutely) and Song in red (The Madness)"

What was the last online music purchase that you downloaded?

"The last was a zombies thing, I like the idea of remembering something and being able to instantly put your hands on it"

Which downloads sum you up as a songwriter?

"Wonderful and Tomorrow's Just Another Day... they all share personal experiences. There's also a great melancholy within those songs, and they're constructed in a classic pop way..."
